Frequently asked questions

What is BlobDrive?

BlobDrive is a cozy multiplayer offroad driving game that runs in your web browser. You drive a jeep through endless, soft, low-poly hills, mud and shallow water, with a violet night sky, fireflies and a slow day and night cycle. There are no missions, no timer and no finish line.

Is BlobDrive free? Do I need to download or sign up?

It is completely free. There is nothing to download or install and no account to create. Open the page, press Start driving, and you are in.

How do I play BlobDrive with friends?

As soon as you start, you are placed in the public room, so you drive alongside whoever else is online. To play with specific friends, create a private room from the welcome screen (the home button in the game) and send them the invite link. Public rooms hold up to 12 drivers and private rooms hold up to 6.

What devices and browsers does it work on?

It works in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on desktop with a keyboard, and on phones and tablets in landscape with on-screen controls. On a phone you can add it to your home screen to run it full screen.

What are the controls?

On desktop: W, A, S, D or the arrow keys to drive, Shift for low range, F to switch between rear-wheel and four-wheel drive, Space to drift, C to change camera, T to change time of day, K for cozy mode, G for auto drive and Z for full screen. On a phone, use the on-screen arrows.

Is there a goal or a score?

No. BlobDrive is meant to be a relaxed place to drive and hang out. There are no missions, no timer and no finish line.

What is auto drive?

Auto drive lets the car wander through the hills on its own, steering around trees, water and steep slopes. Press any driving key to take over, and it takes the wheel back a few seconds after you let go.

Who made BlobDrive?

BlobDrive was made by Nikhil Bhandarkar, a software engineer. You can see his other projects at nikhilbuilds.xyz.

Is there a browser game like Slow Roads, but for offroading?

BlobDrive is a calm, endless driving game with no goal that runs in your browser, in the same relaxed spirit as Slow Roads. The difference is that you are in a jeep crawling over rolling hills, rocks, mud and shallow water instead of cruising a road. It also has an auto drive mode, so the car can wander on its own while you watch.

Is there a game similar to Over the Hill that I can play in my browser?

If you enjoy the slow, relaxed offroading and the high chase camera of Over the Hill, BlobDrive offers a similar mood as a free game that opens instantly in your browser. It is a much smaller project, and it is not affiliated with Over the Hill or Slow Roads.

Is there an offroad game that can run on auto mode?

Yes. BlobDrive starts in auto drive: the car wanders through the terrain by itself, steering around trees, water and steep slopes, and backing out if it gets stuck. Press any driving key or touch the on-screen arrows to take over, and it takes the wheel back a few seconds after you let go.

Is BlobDrive a soothing, zen driving game?

That is the idea. There is no score, timer or enemies, just a slow day and night cycle, fireflies, a violet night sky, warm ambient music and the sound of a fireside. You can leave it running in auto mode as a calm, zen background, or drive yourself at your own pace.
